Jana Rajcova (Slovakia) Exodus.Report

Jana Rajcova’s project, “Exodus. Report,” serves as a vital and deeply humane visual document of the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II. Following the mass flight from Ukraine, Rajcova’s project deliberately steps away from collective tragedy and the anonymity of statistics to focus on the individual human condition of those displaced. Her profoundly empathetic visual language chronicles personal stories, capturing intimate portraits in everyday, transitional settings—like temporary apartments and shelters—paired with fragments of conversation that function as journals of survival, longing, and hope. Defined by pristine clarity and emotional honesty, her work engages with fundamental questions of displacement and identity, portraying the refugees not as victims, but as human beings suspended between a lost homeland and an uncertain future, inviting viewers to inhabit the fragile moments where identity seeks to be reborn from the rupture.
