SmartAID in Ukraine | Aleksandra Kossowska

Curator: Maya Benson

SmartAID, an international not-for-profit organization, prioritizes technology and innovation in its global humanitarian efforts. By integrating technology into traditional humanitarian aid, the organization aims to enhance efficiency and address basic needs during times of adversity. Their work showcases the transformative potential of technology in humanitarian aid and community development, and ultimately saves lives.
SmartAID’s unique approach is evidence-based, community-focused, and technology-oriented, setting SmartAID apart from other organizations and shaping the design and implementation of their initiatives in areas such as clean energy and water, telecommunications and satellite imagery, the internet and AI, data management, drones, and Fintech. By applying technology and providing effective training and support, SmartAID combats poverty, danger, and social injustice in disaster-prone communities.
Since Russia’s assault on Ukraine in February 2022, SmartAID teams have quickly responded to assist women, children, families, and local first responders affected by the conflict. Through partnerships with aid agencies operating in Ukraine and neighboring countries, we responsibly and effectively employ innovation and technology to save lives. This exhibition presents poignant portraits of the diverse people and places encountered by SmartAID teams, offering an intimate glimpse into their lives during times of war.
