Straight Out The Hood follows the unseen and harsh reality of marginalized communities. It delves into the presence of criminal organizations such as the Camorra (Italian Mafia) and local gangs in Los Angeles, highlighting their impact on disadvantaged areas. Capturing the reality of these communities, Gelot’s images shed light on social and economic challenges, sparking debate on challenging stereotypes and adequate solutions, and prompting reflection on current policies and practices in urban housing and development. Gelot’s project promotes understanding, contemplating global issues such as poverty, social justice and human rights, and calls for tolerance among the different communities.
