The successful and persistent alchemy in Cuba is like no other; while one may find a portion of beauty, intelligence, or bravery elsewhere, Cuba has it all. Its people are tied to their land through a shared history of battles won and dreams shattered. Like Prometheus chained to his rock, they have stolen fire. However, the fire is now cold and pale. Once at the forefront of revolutionary action, Cuba is now on an economic, political, and social hiatus. Movement has become lost, and time has suspended in an unsustainable way. The superb and sensuous fabric of the city has crumbled beyond repair, people have gone into exile, leaving behind them a vivid absence. Heroes have aged, Fidel is dead, and empty swimming pools are accompanied by disbelief and reluctance towards propaganda everywhere. Trouble in Paradise captures the dissolution of a dream and the impossibilities of the island of Cuba – what has faded away and what is yet to come.
