As a child living in a time of war, Mouneb Taim tried to focus on the other side of the war, and the civilians and children who were stuck and suffering. Taim’s project explores the existence of those suffering silently and doing their best to resist the war and its bitterness, rooted in the perception that Syria is not just a country ridden with disaster. Certainly, the reality of the war cannot be denied, but civilians and children have endured the challenging reality with determination, hope, and persistence. Over the course of documenting this project, internationally banned bombs and rockets were dropped, buildings were destroyed, and people were dying on a daily basis. Taib’s photographs capture the resilience and creativity of the human spirit in areas that have experienced ultimate destruction. Spanning more than a decade, his project sheds light on the struggle of civilians and children to overcome the ongoing war.
