A Journey of Hope | HIAS

assisting displaced individuals and communities, guided by Jewish values of solidarity.

In the 2000s, HIAS expanded to assist non-Jewish refugees, in the aftermath of conflicts in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Haiti, Hungary, Iran, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Tunisia, Vietnam, and more, working in countries hosting the largest number of refugees. HIAS has since opened offices in support of humanitarian operations in 22 countries across Africa and Europe, and throughout Central and South America.

We are in an age of unprecedented global displacement; the number of displaced persons has topped 110 million for the first time in and continues to increase. HIAS works worldwide to protect refugee rights, provide legal support and mental health assistance, and directs its efforts to end Gender-based violence, and promote economic inclusion, resettlement, and respond to emergencies.

For more than 70 years, HIAS has been operating in Israel, assisting new immigrants, providing legal aid to refugees, and assisting with employment and resettlement. Within 24 hours of the brutal attacks on October 7, HIAS established an emergency team to provide life-saving assistance to displaced persons in Israel. With the help of partners, emergency assistance was and still is being provided, including food, financial aid, psychosocial support, and legal aid to thousands of people affected by the war.
