Mother Tongue was born on October 29, 2019, the same exact day Ratzker’s daughter, Emma, was born. Feeling like her sense of motherhood wasn’t born with her, Ratzker began documenting her new fears and anxieties on camera. Very quickly, her daughter and her learned to speak the same language – the language of photography. In front of the camera they became closer embracing their roles as mother and daughter. They decided not to define who is who, as it changes every day during this in their game of photography. They play together, and grow in front of the camera.
