To All the Things I’ve Lost for You | Yuval Atzili

The title of this series by Yuval Atzili implies all that he has lost. As a twin brother, as a homosexual, as a man without children. Loss in favor of choosing to live his life as an artist, loss as a son who opted to abandon soccer in a family where soccer is a focal point. Loss for his three brothers, and for Shlomi the parrot. However, for Atzili, such a loss is not a negative experience, rather it serves as an opportunity to contemplate and delve deeper into understanding himself. Most of the photographs include Atzili, his brother, nephews, nieces, and father. In each of the works in the exhibition – whether relating to family, soccer, models of masculinity and beauty, or birds – Atzili refers both to himself and his audience. In the 12-year-long series of family portraits, as well as in his other works, Atzili’s creative process becomes the primary component of the work. Looking at his work, we are witnessing a journey into the soul of the artist. An honest journey, free of armor and pretension, through which if we take a closer look, we might uncover yet another portion of ourselves.
